Phonics instruction with DVD and Workbooks

A Guaranteed Way To See Your Child Succeed At Grade Level Reading In 4 Months

It only takes 10 to 15 minutes each day with this phonics curriculum to help your child boost their reading skills. The fact that you can help your son or daughter learn to read is where the real joy comes from.

With this program, each lesson helps build their skills through the power of phonics. Phonics is the proven method that has been used for years to help kids rapidly grasp the core concepts that reading, not just memorizing and reciting words, requires. By breaking words down into sounds that are easy to remember, you and your child lay the ground work for true success in reading that they can take pride in.

Learn to Read with Skip and Daisy goes further than other reading programs that force a child to memorize certain words. Instead, with this program children can break down words into sounds so they are never intimidated by new words the encounter.

Every lesson is a new step towards not just meeting grade level reading ability, but actually surpassing it. You will watch your child become confident and proud of their own skills.

How This phonics program came about:

It took a determined mother to create the Learn to Read with Skip and Daisy reading program. Sonya Nelson’s daughter Britney had gone from being praised as a high level reader to almost illiterate.

Sonya tells of where it all started, back when Britney first got into kindergarten. There, she amazed her teachers with her rapid learning of the alphabetic sounds and even got awards for her promising skills. It seemed Britney would be quite the little reader.

Then came the first grade and a brand new approach to reading known as the ‘whole language method’. Under this approach, the teacher would read a book from cover to cover to students who would also be reading along in their copy of the book. After the teacher had completed the book, then it would be a student’s turn to read the same book from beginning to end. This process was completed until the student could read the story well enough to move on to the next book. Britney immediately rose through the levels to among the highest in the class. However, Sonya started to notice that at home she was unable to read a book she had never heard read aloud. This worried Sonya, but the teachers said not to worry, that one day Britney would be able to read more.
Second grade for Britney basically carried on as first grade had, using the same techniques in the classroom. Britney excelled once again, until halfway through the year. It was then that she seemed to come to an almost full stop, unable to progress into more advanced books. Even while Britney struggled, the teachers told Sonya that she would be alright. Sonya had a mother’s intuition that this was not the case.

To test her suspicions, Sonya would write a word from one of Britney’s books onto a piece of paper and ask her daughter what the word was. Britney had no answer, seeming confused by words once they were removed from the story. This worried Sonya deeply.

Sonya went to speak with Britney’s teachers, asking them for the steps for teaching a child to read, but they had no answers for her. She then decided she would buy some of the products being advertised on TV in an effort to boost Britney’s reading skills. There were lots of games, cute animation and flash cards, but none of it could keep Britney’s interest and the sessions went nowhere.
The California Standardized Reading Test ranked Britney in the bottom 13th percentile at the end of second grade.

Not even a week into third grade, Sonya got a call from Britney’s teacher. At the conference, the teacher told Sonya that her daughter was “clinically illiterate” which meant that she had fallen from the high level reader in first grade to unable to read by third grade. This drove Sonya to find her own solution to help her daughter.

After researching everything she could find about successful methods for teaching children to read, Sonya finally struck upon a unique method called systematic phonics that had a proven track record of success. She even went on to seek certification as a reading teacher through the Florida based Read America school. In only 4 months she had helped Britney become fluent at reading. Sonya discovered that teaching reading is a very uncomplicated thing if it is done properly. That is why she developed the Learn to Read with Skip and Daisy reading program. It is her hope that your child will get as much good from it as her own daughter did.
